The 5G/6G laboratory, valued at VND 1.7 billion, is designed to create an environment for launching projects and research initiatives in advanced networks and 5G/6G technologies. It will support short-term cooperative training classes and advanced courses for Viettel’s technical staff and research personnel. The lab also serves as a platform for consulting, standardization, and integrating solutions in advanced network and 5G/6G fields, and will pave the way for future research directions.
This initiative is a testament to the strategic vision, long-term investment, and strong spirit of cooperation between HUST and Viettel.
At the ceremony, Associate Professor Huỳnh Quyết Thắng, Director of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Viettel for sponsoring the research and intensive training laboratory. He emphasized two key development perspectives in HUST’s training programs:
Students must have access to appropriate equipment for their studies. The university is committed to investing in research laboratories to ensure students are exposed to new technologies and to avoid any gaps in practical learning.
The university maintains transparency in managing these laboratories, ensuring that the research conducted truly aligns with its mission and responsibilities.
Associate Professor Thắng expressed his hope that the collaboration between Viettel and HUST will continue to grow, with the School of Electrical - Electronics playing a pioneering role in this partnership.
Colonel Cao Anh Sơn, Deputy General Director of Viettel, shared his honor at being able to jointly inaugurate the new research facility with HUST’s School of Electrical - Electronics. He highlighted that the new lab will enable the creation of innovative products built on Viettel’s existing research infrastructure—a crucial component in Vietnam’s digital transformation.
According to Colonel Cao Anh Sơn, only six countries in the world have deployed 5G so far. Viettel is one of the few companies that manufactures its own 5G equipment, which not only serves the domestic market but is also exported internationally. “This achievement is largely thanks to Hanoi University of Science and Technology—an institution that has trained many generations of outstanding engineers and researchers. We are deeply grateful to HUST,” stated the Viettel leader.
At the ceremony, Associate Professor Nguyễn Hữu Thanh, Rector of the School of Electrical - Electronics at HUST, presented an overview of the ongoing collaborative initiatives between the school and Viettel. These include cooperative training programs, the Viettel Talent Scholarships, a research project focused on developing AI algorithms for 5G chips, and the public announcement of joint research results.
Looking ahead, the School of Electrical - Electronics at HUST and Viettel will collaborate on researching 6G technologies deployable at Viettel using the newly equipped lab. They will continue to advance joint research projects, strengthen training courses between the two parties, and support research through scholarships for master’s students, specialized engineers, and doctoral candidates. These partnerships not only benefit both institutions but also contribute to the sustainable development of society.
With Viettel’s technological investment and robust cooperation, the Viettel - HUST 5G/6G Research Laboratory is set to become a solid foundation for groundbreaking achievements in technology, engineering, and particularly in the field of Electrical - Electronics.
In addition, during the event the Viettel Talent Scholarship 2024 was awarded. The Viettel Talent Scholarship program is part of Viettel’s commitment to developing high-quality human resources for society, especially in the technology sector. Through this program, the group expects to support the university and maximize the research potential of its students as they engage in projects addressing real-world challenges.
For the 2024 program, nine outstanding students were selected to receive the Viettel Talent Scholarship, with each scholarship valued at VND 50 million.
“Currently, about 25% of HUST graduates are employed by Viettel; approximately 50% of the management staff at Viettel are HUST alumni; and in the high-technology research sector of the group, the figure exceeds 50%.”
— Colonel Cao Anh Sơn, Deputy General Director of Viettel
This landmark event underlines the significant role of HUST in nurturing talent and Viettel’s commitment to advancing technology in Vietnam.
