A Special Photograph from the Graduation Ceremony

Graduation is an immensely significant occasion for every student. It marks the moment that students have eagerly awaited throughout their university years—a time that embodies the culmination of their hard work and the beautiful memories of youth. For Trần Đình Dư, however, the ceremony held an extra special meaning. It was the day he was able to present his mother with a precious gift: his Excellent Engineer Diploma. This diploma symbolized all the sweat and effort his parents invested in helping him reach this milestone.

Few people knew that this was the very first photograph ever taken of him with his mother. Dư shared, “At first, my mother was quite hesitant. She didn’t want to come because she was worried about the expenses and leaving her work unfinished at home. But I convinced her to attend so that we could have a photo together, since we had never taken one before.”

And so, that wonderful photograph was born. In the picture, his mother is seen wearing his cap and gown, standing alongside the newly graduated engineer from Hanoi University of Science and Technology, whose satisfied smile reflected the fulfillment of his mother’s dream. Dư recalled that his mother was initially reluctant to wear his cap and gown, feeling unworthy of it. Jokingly, he said, “This represents all our hard work and sacrifices—please, wear it,” and after much hesitation, his mother finally agreed.

Ultimately, the relentless efforts and sacrifices of his mother were richly rewarded with the joy of seeing her son excel at graduation. This Mother’s Day, Trần Đình Dư gifted his mother an incredibly meaningful present.

The Success of the Child – The Sacrifice of the Parents

Dư is the youngest of four children in a humble farming family from Ha Nam. The family’s livelihood depended on his father’s wages as a construction worker and his mother’s work in agriculture. “At first, I wasn’t even planned for by my parents because our family was facing tough financial circumstances; my father was afraid that having too many children would be unsustainable. But my mother fought hard to bring me into this world. That’s why my grandfather named me Trần Đình Dư. Now, that name is proudly displayed on my Excellent Engineer Diploma from Hanoi University of Science and Technology,” he humorously recounted.

Even though his family faced hardships, his mother never allowed him to engage in heavy labor. Dư reminisced, “When I was little, I would often ride on my mother’s banana cart as she headed out to the fields. Once we arrived, she never let me help with the hard work; she would simply let me sit and play while she worked. Back then, I was very young and carefree, but now I look back with deep affection for her.” Despite carrying heavy loads of bananas and sweet potatoes, his mother’s boundless love ensured that he never suffered the burden of those hardships.

As he grew older and became more robust, his parents always ensured that Dư was not burdened with strenuous tasks, allowing him to dedicate time to his studies. Moved by the sacrifices his parents made, Trần Đình Dư consistently studied hard, maintaining a top position in his class, and even helped out with small chores at home whenever he could.

His Mother’s Dream

“Before coming to Hanoi University of Science and Technology, I once dreamed of becoming an officer in the military. Serving in the army would have eased the burden of tuition fees for my parents and helped me build the resilience needed to shoulder family responsibilities. However, due to physical limitations, I had to withdraw from the military’s preliminary selection. Although I couldn’t fulfill that dream, I was always encouraged by the two most important women in my life: my mother and my aunt.”

“My mother only wishes for me to always be healthy and to grow up safely.” This heartfelt sentiment provided the motivation for Dư to finally choose his own path after many hesitations. He understood that no matter which road he took, his mother would always support him unconditionally.

Guided by his aunt’s advice, Trần Đình Dư applied to Hanoi University of Science and Technology—the country’s premier technical institution. With determination to overcome adversity, he was admitted into the highly competitive Control and Automation Engineering program, one of the top programs at the university. Today, he proudly holds an Excellent Engineer Diploma with a GPA of 3.69, officially stepping into his role as a new engineer from Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

“The five-year journey at Hanoi University of Science and Technology has helped me mature and realize the dream my mother always cherished. As I step out of the university gates, I will strive even harder to ease the hardships of my parents and contribute to enhancing the legacy of our beloved institution, affirming the value of every student from Hanoi University of Science and Technology,” expressed Trần Đình Dư with heartfelt passion.
